Even before I made the first sample cut, I have a larger position high-quality, clear GS acrylic glass ordered – directly from one german specialised dealers. Why?
Because I don't want to make anything that I don't want to they would find themselves good.
I don’t want my engraved signs to wavy, get tension or look milky. I want crystal-clear engravings, sturdy plates and a value that you can use see and touch can.
GS vs. XT – What’s the Difference?
In case you haven’t heard it, acrylic is not the same as acrylic.
There are two main types:
? XT (extruded)
- Pressed from hot plastic tape
- Cheap, but internally under tension
- Can tear during engraving or become cloudy
? GS (cast)
- Poured into moulds and slowly cured
- Significantly more voltage-free
- Perfect for clean laser engraving
- Clearer, harder, more stable – just better.

I could certainly have taken cheap XT-acrylic.
But honestly: What’s the point if the stuff breaks after a few months or doesn’t engrave clean?
Then better one euro more per plate, vote for it in the end the result: – and you get something you’ll still like to watch in a year.
