Product safety information for articles printed in ABS
Material description and properties:The products offered are products made using the 3D printing process of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS). ABS is a robust and durable plastic with high impact resistance, good chemical resistance and high temperature resistance. Due to its mechanical properties, ABS is often used for technical applications.
Heat resistance and risk of deformation:ABS is significantly more heat resistant than PLA and PETG and only begins to soften at temperatures above about 90–100 °C. Nevertheless, the products should not be exposed to excessively high temperatures or open flames, as ABS can melt or burn at very high temperatures. In addition, the material can become brittle under UV radiation.
Instructions for safe use:
- Store ABS items in a cool, dry place and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
- Avoid direct contact with open flames or extreme heat sources.
- ABS is resistant to many chemicals, but not to certain solvents such as acetone, which can dissolve the material.
- Due to its high toughness, ABS is suitable for mechanically loaded applications, but it can break under strong force.
Production process:ABS is polymerised from acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, resulting in a balanced combination of strength, impact strength and heat resistance. In the 3D printing process, ABS is used in the form of filaments which are melted by heating in a nozzle and applied layer by layer to form the desired ect. When printing ABS, vapors can occur, which is why good ventilation is recommended.
Legal information:The articles printed in ABS comply with the essential requirements of the Product Safety Regulation. Due to the potential emissions during processing, ABS should not be processed in enclosed, insufficiently ventilated rooms. In addition, the articles are not intended for safety-critical applications or direct contact with food and beverages unless they have been certified accordingly.
