Product safety information on articles printed in PLA

Material description and properties:The products offered are products made from polylactide (PLA) using the 3D printing process. PLA is a biodegradable plastic obtained from renewable raw materials such as corn starch or sugar cane. This material is known for its environmental friendliness and has a high dimensional accuracy and good printability.

Heat resistance and risk of deformation:Please note that PLA is not heat resistant. The material begins to soften at temperatures starting at about 50–60 °C and can deform. Therefore, the products should not be exposed to direct sunlight, high ambient temperatures or hot liquids. Use near heat sources such as radiators, dishwashers or vehicles on hot days is not recommended.

Instructions for safe use:

  • Store PLA items in a cool, dry place.
  • Avoid contact with hot surfaces or direct heat.
  • Do not use PLA articles for applications where high temperatures could occur.
  • Make sure that the articles are not mechanically overloaded, as PLA can be brittle compared to other plastics.

Production process:PLA is produced by fermentation of plant raw materials, forming lactic acid which is subsequently polymerised to polylactide. In the 3D printing process, PLA is used in the form of filaments, which are melted by heating in a nozzle and applied layer by layer to shape the desired OBJect.

Legal information:The articles printed in PLA meet the essential requirements of the Product Safety Regulation. Nevertheless, they are products that are not intended for safety-critical applications or for direct contact with food and beverages, unless they have been certified accordingly.
